"Historic Preservation Contractor"
ARCHITECTURAL MILLWORK FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION
We at Historic Structures are master carpenters and cabinet makers specializing in producing architectural millwork, casework, paneling, molding and staircases for the restoration and faithful reproduction of existing historic work. We can reproduce existing work, replicate work from surviving records or recreate period work from salvaged fragments or local building traditions.
As an example of our approach to authentic and harmonious reproduction of architectural millwork, we furnish this example from our portfolio, the restoration of a 1790 private dwelling on Wheat Row in Washington, DC. Historic Structures had recently completed a restoration project for historic Gunston Hall, in Mason Neck, built in the same style and decade as the Wheat Row house and to a similar scale. We adapted the design ideas and even used the molding knives we had developed from Gunston Hall to produce an authentic paneled interior, seen above.
Historic Structures is pleased to work with clients conserving, restoring or reproducing period styles from the early eighteenth century to the early twentieth. We believe that the most efficient designs for satisfactory historic preservation are a combination of the intent of our client and that of the original builder. We are prepared to produce sound, reliable work from old photographs, client drawings and even from salvaged historic fragments. Our experience and commitment can help to assure an efficient and satisfactory result for your project as it has for so many others. We are glad to hear about your significant historic restoration or reproduction project:
